Balancing Hormones

Hormones are produced throughout our body to act as chemical messengers, controlling major physiologic functions such as reproduction, emotions, hunger, etc. When our hormones are out of balance, it can contribute to a number of health conditions leading to undesirable signs and symptoms.

Through laboratory testing, I pay particular attention to:
– Estrogen
– Progesterone
– Testosterone, free and bound
– Sex Hormone Binding Globulin
– Luteinizing Hormone
– Follicular Stimulating Hormone
– Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
– T3 and T4
– Cortisol

Specialized Testing Options

While all Naturopathic Doctors offer blood testing, they also have access to functional testing that will give you a better idea of how your hormones functioning inside your body.

This panel offers an extensive profile of melatonin, adrenal and sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) and their metabolites. Hormones are measured over a 24 hour period.

This test provides an overview of female hormone balance by assessing five major hormones and their interactions. They include: estradiol, progesterone, progesterone to estradiol ratio, testosterone, DHEA-s and cortisol. If you are a pre-menopausal woman you may want to take this test a week prior to your period to determine your overall hormonal balance.

Using salivary hormones, this assessment provides us with a comprehensive look at your female hormones as well as cortisol. You may benefit from this test if you are experiencing abnormal menstrual bleeding, no periods, fertility issues, or cycle-specific symptoms (migraines, PMS, etc.).
